Outdoor Recreation

Surrounded by scenic hiking trails for both experienced and beginner hikers of all ages, the Appalachian Highlands is the perfect balance of amenities and access to the outdoors. Here, you can backpack East Tennessee’s 287.9 miles of the Appalachian Trail or visit our multiple rivers and lakes in the region to find your new favorite spot for boating, kayaking, whitewater rafting, stand up paddle boarding, fishing, and more.

Arts & Entertainment

Located on the campus of East Tennessee State University, the Martin Center for the Arts is a 93,000 square foot facility completed in 2020 that features multiple performance halls ranging in seating from 200 – 1,200. The Martin Center hosts conferences to concerts to Broadway plays and everything in between.

Founders Park

Downtown dog-friendly community park and green space with walking paths and sculptures surrounding a creek. Home to special events, festivals, and occasional live music on Fridays

Buffalo Mtn Park

570 Highridge Rd.

725-acre nature preserve on the North slope of Buffalo Mountain that consists of steep topography and densely forested land perfect for hiking, picnicking, and nature programs.

Tweetsie Trail

107 Alabama St.

The longest rails-to-trails project in Tennessee, traversing the former “Tweetsie” railroad, features a 9.5-mile trail crossing seven bridges that is ideal for walking, running, hiking and biking.
